Rocket Rattle

One of our nephews is in a rattle phase and loves to shake-shake-shake away. My crafty SIL created a couple simple rattles out of old vitamin bottles (with child-proof tops) filled with rice. Using the same concept, I wanted to give him a knitted rattle in a fun shape.

Originally, I was thinking to make a rabbit rattle because  he was born in the year of the rabbit; until luckily, I stumbled (in Ravelry) across this great pattern for a rocket. It was a great alternative because the fins – like rabbits ears – creates additional surface extensions for easy gripping.

Inside is an old medicine bottle filled with rice.

This is a great stash-busting project and he can continue to shake-shake-shake to his heart’s content.
